Whether you are a pro at nature and landscapes or you need some help with your photography, this weekend workshop with Lisa Crayford and up to 5 guests is the perfect workshop for you.  The goal of the weekend will be photographing several waterfalls which will entail a few miles of hiking.  We will travel to the Cascade River, Fall River, Kadunce, Brule, Temperance, Caribou and the Pigeon River.  The number of waterfalls we see will depend upon the weather, but plan on visiting at least 10 wonderful waterfalls so get your gear ready for an awesome adventure!

We will be staying at a beautiful home on Lake Superior’s shore for your choice of number of nights.  This house has a spacious kitchen, six beds, two bathrooms and a huge living room for some reading and relaxation.  As people book, I will determine who gets what room depending upon if some of us are bringing a friend along and/or two gals want to room together verses one lady coming by herself and not knowing anyone….or if you know you’re a loud snorer (LOL).

  • Wednesday:  Check in anytime.  Our time is open for a full day of waterfalls and hiking.
  • Thursday: Check in anytime.  Our time is open for a full day of waterfalls and hiking.
  • Friday: Check in anytime, I’ll be at the house all week.   Unpack and get settled in. In the evening we’ll be heading down to Tettegouche State Park for my Waterfall open house reception from 7-8:30.  The lobby will be decorated for the month of May with my waterfall images.  During the day we have time to go photograph some beautiful waterfalls.
  • Saturday: Serve yourself breakfast, make a bag lunch and we’ll hit the road at 7:30am for a full day of waterfalls up the north shore. Our evening meal will be together at a restaurant in Grand Marais.
  • Sunday: Serve yourself breakfast, make a bag lunch and we’ll hit the road at 9am for a fun waterfalls day. Evening meal will be together at the cabin. We can go over and review images. Work on our techniques, sit back and relax. If anyone wants to do sunset images, she goes down at 8:23pm.
  • Monday: If anyone wants the sunrise over Lake Superior, it rises at 5:30am. If not, we’ll go photograph a nearby waterfall at 7am. Come back for breakfast and check out at 11am.

Your meals will be on your own.  We do have a nice kitchen at our cabin (house) and Saturday evening we will be going up to Grand Marais for supper. So bring your own food for breakfast and lunches on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Pack healthy food so you have plenty of energy for hiking, although Cheetos are always welcome.

Other Useful Information

Wondering what kind of shape you have to be in to go hiking in the woods with Lisa?  I would say we’ll put on 4-5 miles a day.  Some of our hikes can be strenuous at times but most are generally easy hikes.  We will be tromping through mud puddles, over roots and logs and up steep hills.  You’ll want to bring along a variety of clothing from a waterproof jacket with a hood, a cozy warm hoodie, flannel shirt, waterproof quick dry pants, waterproof hiking boots and some tall rain boots for those of you that want to get in the river for a better angle.   In May I usually wear my comfortable Keen boots.  Make sure your boots have good tread on the bottoms.
